Welcome to St. Stephen's!

Our mission is to enable the people of Grand Island to encounter Jesus by sharing Word and Sacrament with a loving concern for one another. This Mission will be achieved by living out our daily lives the lessons of the gospels such as:

  • Teaching and perpetuating Christian Values

  • Celebrating together Word and Sacrament

  • Sharing our gifts and love with one another

  • Growing in God's love by openness to the Spirit

  • Being a witness to Jesus of the Gospel

We invite you to join us at our parish on Grand Island.  All are welcome!

Dear Friends,

Welcome to our parish website.  We are honored that you have taken the time to visit us.

Since Feb. 16,1862, St. Stephen Parish has been serving the needs of Catholic families on Grand Island.  In 2012 we will observe a year long series of celebrations commemorating our 150th anniversary.

From a small handful of individuals, St. Stephen has grown into a community of 3,000 families over those 150 years.  In 2000 our beautiful new church was completed and seats 1,200 people.  Our parish school of almost 200 students continues to be a thriving part of parish life.  Dozens of organizations serve the diverse needs of our parishioners.

If you are looking for a parish community, we invite you to inquire here.  We are ready to assist you in any way possible.  In imitation of Jesus, we stand ready to be of service to those who are on the journey of faith.

As we have now entered 2012, we are looking forward to a series of events commemorating our 150th year.  I invite you to click on the sesquicentennial page to see how you can be a part of our celebration.  We will soon be listing a complete calendar of the year’s events.

Again, please contact me, or our Parochial Vicar, Fr. Lynn Shumway, if we can be of assistance to you.

God bless!

Fr. Paul Nogaro
Pastor

CATHOLIC BIBLE STUDIES FOR THE YEAR OF FAITH

This YEAR OF FAITH is appropriate as our freedom of religion is under attack.  Pope Benedict describes it as opening the "door of Faith."  This "door of faith" is opened at one's baptism, but during this year Catholics are called to open it again, walk through it and rediscover and renew their relationship with and his Church.  Four Bible studies are being offered to help us better defend our faith and draw closer to Christ and the Church.  The first three studies are foundational in Bible study knowledge and understanding.  It is suggested that one start with Study/Step 1 and then proceed to Steps 2 & 3.  We also are offering a study on Revelations in which no prior study is required.  In January we will also offer a study on the Book of James.  Read through the studies and then print off the appropriate study for you and fill out and mail or drop off at the rectory or in the collection with your check made out to St. Stephen.  Please note, responses are needed by August 22 so study guides may be ordered.
